Tamara Olson is interested in mathematics applied to the behavior of inhomogeneous
materials, in the form of bounds and approximations which take into
account statistical descriptions of the microstructure. Physical phenomena
of interest include linear behaviors (thermal and electrical conductivity,
dielectricity, elasticity, piezoelectricity, etc.) and nonlinear behaviors
(plasticity, elasticity, yield). Mathematical tools include PDEÕs,
variational principles, Fourier analysis, calculus of
variations . . .
